" The 2nd stage of my labour was only 20 minutes. It was a bit too fast really and afterwards I was in shock. I felt I was a bit disconnected and didn‘t really want to be touched much. So just having the warmth of the moxa Hanna used over my back and tummy with minimal intervention was good. I could really feel it reconnecting me and bringing me back to life, " Alinah
It’s very easy to get run down in the weeks following your baby’s birth. We expect to ‘get back on our feet’ as soon as possible and very few of us have the luxury of extended families to help look after our younger children or to fill our fridges and freezers with pre-cooked meals. Most us are so busy getting our newborn’s breast feeding and sleep patterns established that we eat badly, don’t drink enough fluids, forget to rest and then six weeks after the birth when our partners have long gone back to work we suddenly feel overwhelmed.
To prevent this, Hanna sees people from home from 5 days post birth. ’Mother-warming’ involves the gentle warming of the acupuncture meridians that run through the lower abdomen and back. It’s a very nourishing and strengthening treatment and can be taught to husbands and partners to be carried out daily for 10-20 minutes.
Other commonly treated issues that respond quickly to acupuncture at this time are night sweating, sleep problems, bladder and pelvic floor weakness, haemorrhoids, carpal tunnel syndrome and problems breastfeeding.
